The Research Center for Cultural Heritage was established in 2014. The basic goal of the Center is to promote the scientific knowledge in the field of history of art and archeology, especially the medieval art and the art of the late middle ages and the time of the revival, as well as the art and the material culture in ancient times on the territory of Macedonia. The results of the research projects are published in scientific monographs, as well as in MONUMENTA, the Annual report of the Center.
In the past two years at the Center were realized many research projects: Frescoes of St. Virgin Perivlepta (St. Clement) and the art of the Ohrid Archbishopric in XIII-XIV century; Beliefs through the image in stone in ancient times in Macedonia – corpus of monuments. Projects within the project cooperation with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: Debar and Samokov iconography school; From paganism to Christianity.
There are two ongoing projects: Sculpture and decorative stone plastic in ancient times in Macedonia and Portraits of St. John Vladimir in the Balkan from the XVII to the XX century.
More than a dozen scientific papers were published in the past two years as a result of the research work at the Center, many of them in international scientific journals. The results of the scientific work have been presented at international and national scientific meetings.
In addition to the research of the cultural heritage, one of the basic objectives of the Center is to initiate and coordinate national research programs in cooperation with institutions in the Republic of Macedonia. The Center realizes constant scientific communication and cooperation with research centers and institutes in the region and the world, including joint research projects and exchange of literature.
A research associate and a scientifi advisor are involved in the work of the Center.
