He completed studies of Medicine at the Faculty in Skopje in 1986, and from 1989 he worked at the Clinic of Cardiology. Prof. Saško Kedev has finished post-graduate studies in 1990 defending his master thesis on the topic “Effects of early intravenous thrombolysis in acute myocardial infarction.” In the period from September 1991 to October 1993 he stayed on specialization and vocational training in the National Institutes of Health of the United States in Bethesda, (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute; National Institutes of Health) working on projects in the field of molecular cardiology. During his stay in the United States he has passed all validation medical exams and obtained a license to operate in the state of Maryland. In 1995 he has passed the specialist examination in internal medicine; in 1999 was promoted as a Fellow of European Society of Cardiology, and in 2001 acquired the title of European cardiologist. From 1999 to 2002 he was director of the Institute for Heart Disease at the Clinical Centre Skopje.

In 2001 he was elected as associate professor on the subject Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje. In 2003 he was elected as a visiting professor at the University of North Carolina, The Carolinas Heart Institute, NC, USA.

As an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine he was elected in 2008, and from 2013 he was elected as a full professor of internal medicine at the Medical Faculty in Skopje.

Since 2006 he is the director of the University Clinic of Cardiology, whereas since his employment at the Clinic for Cardiology he actively participates in the introduction of modern therapeutic approaches in the treatment of coronary artery disease, especially acute myocardial infarction. He was the leading principal researcher on the project of “Application of fibrinolysis therapy in acute myocardial infarction”, resulting in his master’s thesis, defended in 1990. Prof. Kedev actively takes part in the work of the Angiocardiographic Laboratory and the Center for electrostimulation (pacing) at the Clinic for Cardiology, where he shows a particular interest in the application of interventional procedures (coronary balloon angioplasty and stenting) in patients with coronary artery disease.

From November 1996 to August 1997 he worked at Ospedali Riunidi di Bergamo, Italy, on extensive practical program in interventional cardiology, including: intracoronary stenting and application of new “imaging” techniques: intracoronary angyoscopy and intracoronary ultrasound. In 1998 he defended his doctoral dissertation titled Primary coronary angioplasticapri acute myocardial infarction of the Faculty of Medicine, by which is introduced this vitally rescue procedure in the routine practice.

Since 2003 he has introduced trans radial access to diagnostic and interventional vascular procedures. For the first time it has performed carotid stenting in 2002 after transfemoral route, and since 2006 has introduced routine transradial approach to carotid stenting, with so far the world’s largest series of 850 procedures.

His working experiences are published and presented on many world gatherings, with more demonstrations live as invited operator (Tolouse, France; Brussels, Belgium; Ahmedabad, Pune, New Delhi, Lucknow, Cochi, Chennai, Kanpur India; Nanjing, China; Moscow , Rostov, Russia; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Dakha, Bangladesh; Belgrade, Serbia; Sofia, Bulgaria; Esfahan, Iran).

Since 2009 he has introduced techniques of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), optical coherent tomography (OCT) and invasive examination of factional reserve of coronary flow (FFR). In 2012 he implanted the first bioresorbtive vascular scaffolds (stents) and transcatheter renal denervation in the treatment of malignant arterial hypertension. He has introduced rotational atherectomy in 2013. The first balloon valvuloplasty of aortalnota valve, and the first transcatheter implantation of aortlalna valve in patients with severe stenosis aortna in Macedonia were performed by him in 2014, and a year later valvuloplastic balloon pulmonary stenosis. In 2015 he introduced the technique of implanting prostheses TVAR and EVAR in patients with dissection and / or aneurysm of the thoracic and abdominal aneurysm.

Regularly participates in the performance of undergraduate teaching in the subject Internal Medicine for students of Medicine and Dentistry Faculty at Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. He has also participated in the teaching on the post-graduate master studies of medical sciences where he taught selected chapters of cardiology. He holds postgraduate teaching for trainees in internal medicine and cardiology at the Medical Faculty. Successfully conducts continuing education of interventional cardiologists from Clinic for Cardiology as well as from other centers in the Republic Macedonia and from abroad (Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Indonesia, Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, South Africa).

Prof. Kedev regularly participates in the examination commissions for specialist, sub-specialist examinations, defence of doctorates and masters theses. He was a mentor of successfully defended three master’s works and a doctorate. Currently he is mentoring the preparation process of 3 doctorates in the field of cardiology. Early in the beginning in his work at the Clinic for Cardiology he is involved in preparation of the scientific and research papers and articles. His professional, scientific and publishing work can be seen from the list of published scientific papers, chapters in books and publications.

He is the author and co-author in the preparation of over 200 scientific papers, published in relevant journals in the field of cardiology. Much of his published works he presented on prominent international congresses and symposia as invited lecturer. He is the author of 7 chapters in international books in interventional cardiology, which presents innovative techniques and methods, and transulnar transradial access in acute coronary syndrome and carotid stenting.

Since 2010 he was elected as FACC – Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and in 2016 as FSCAI – Fellow of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.

As an invited Reviewer he participates in the preparation of official recommendations: 2014 ESC / EACTS Guidelines on myocardial revascularization: The Task Force on Myocardial Revascularization of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS); 2015 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Guidelines for the management of acute coronary syndromes in patients presenting without persistent ST-segment elevation, and the 2016 ESC / EAS Guidelines for the management of dyslipidaemias.
