The Research Center for Environment and Materials was established in 2014 as the focal point that coordinates the research activity in the fields of environment and materials in Macedonia. The Center’s primary mission is to provide support and coordination of the research resources available in the country, as well as to maximize the available research potential. The Center maintains a database of available research equipment and researchers, while it also organizes scientific meetings and provides logistic support for networking and cooperation with national and international sponsors. The Center has permanent staff within the Academy and members from within and outside the Academy, while it also maintains an active network of collaborating individuals and institutions.
Over the first decade since its formation, the Center’s members have participated in a number of both fundamental and applied research projects in environment and materials that span research themes across sustainable energy, pressing environmental issues, and biological studies that are of local relevance to Macedonia. In addition to active research, the Center members also contribute to the training of young researchers, academic exchange of faculty, researchers, and students, as well as the organization of seminars, conferences, and lectures.
